Getting motivated each Monday……
Monday is known for being most people’s least favourite day of the week, the one we dread and even tell ourselves we have the Sunday blues knowing it is just around the corner. I definitely have felt that on many Sundays.
But……… it doesn’t have to be like that. Mondays can be a fresh new opportunity each and every week to start the week the right way!
Sunday’s can be a day of reflection on how the week went, and what changes we want to make for the new week ahead.
Monday is the perfect day to correct last week’s mistakes!
Begin the week with a goal in mind, it doesn’t have to be big. Start small, maybe your goal is to practise lateral movements in the school, riding without stirrups for longer than ten minutes or to carry out the exercises your trainer gave you that may be trickier than you are used to.
The Comfort Zone…
We can avoid being motivated, as to create change involves us stepping outside of our comfort zones. This is something we put off, avoid or find many excuses as to why we shouldn’t do it.
Yes it’s uncomfortable there for a while, but if we knew how good it could make us all feel we would be leaping out of the slouchy zones as fast as we could!
So what is stopping us from finding out? It’s so much easier for us to stay within our boundaries where we feel safe and comfortable, but this also limits us too.
“In theory, all you need to do is to take the first step. It will be difficult. The first day at the gym is the worst. The opening line of your story takes the longest time. But as you gain momentum, it is easier to keep moving.” — Deepak Mehta
Make small changes each week to start adjusting to the boundaries, you don’t always have to take the least risky choice, if its safe to do so try taking small risks. Give things a go, you never know until you try!
Although the first time you take yourself out of your comfort zone it may feel threatening and could even be difficult, at some point you will feel comfortable again.
That’s the best way to increase the size of your comfort zone. However, you must be prepared to keep stretching your comfort zone in order to keep improving and not limit yourself.
Fear can be a reason to stay in the safe place, we quite often think what if we’re not good enough, or fail, or it goes wrong? Remember, there is no failure, only outcomes and these could be really great outcomes!
Keep the faith….
Have faith that a new change or a new opportunity will bring you to a new, but also a new comforting place.
It may be just another Monday, but how about making it your chance to re-set and start to dream, let your mind dream big. Stay focused on your dreams, try to visualise your goal and keep it in your imagination.
Your imagination is a great source of energy and strength. It can lead you out of the comfort zone to where the magic happens!
It is important to look back on how far you have come, set some time aside to acknowledge what you have achieved, even if you need some prompting from your trainer or looking back over dressage tests to read the lovely comments you received. This will help to keep you excited about the next steps and boost your confidence to keep going.
We wish you good luck with stepping out of your comfort zone! It can bring a whole new world of excitement, experiences, new friends, and new knowledge into your life.
